State of the City 2026

This year’s program will take a forward-looking approach, focusing on what’s ahead rather than what’s already happened. We’re also introducing a soccer-inspired theme as we begin preparing our community for a global moment: when the world comes together in Manhattan Beach for the FIFA World Cup.

The evening will open with remarks from John Thorrington, Co-President and General Manager of Los Angeles Football Club (LAFC). We’ll also be joined by Alexi Lalas, former U.S. Men’s National Team player and Fox Sports World Cup commentator, who will share insights on how our community can prepare to welcome international visitors. What will it feel like? What matters most to this global, high-value audience? How can Manhattan Beach put its best foot forward?

For the first time in 50 years, Manhattan Beach is changing the code to determine how business license taxes are calculated. THIS WILL IMPACT HOW MUCH YOUR BUSINESS LICENSE COSTS NEXT YEAR!

An outside consultant was hired to determine multiple options, which will be presented at this forum. I have been advocating for this update for almost eight years and it's finally happening. This is your opportunity to hear the options and provide feedback before the options go to City Council for approval.
